The United States produces more tobacco than it does wheat. By weight, the largest agricultural crop is corn, then peanuts, tobacco, wheat, and soybeans.
Almost all our breakfast cereals are made of grass. Oats, barley, corn, and wheat are all different varieties of grass and are descended from the same botanical species. Moreover, most of the sugar we eat also comes from grass (sugar cane), as do most of our alcoholic beverages.
Iowa has more land under cultivation than any other state—more than 24 million acres. Following in order are Texas, Illinois, Kansas and Minnesota.
